Though I’ve used my narrative work to explore topics that are important to me– such as chronic illness and the American healthcare system (Existing Patient), gentrification (Before Seeing the Master), and racism (On the Nile)– I’ve also used my skills to more directly impact my community and the causes I care about, working directly with nonprofits and advocacy groups.
I was a founding member of and provided video services to Those Texas Women, a 501(c)(3) organization that focused on political organizing and raised over $75,000 for the Casa Marianela, The Austin Justice Coalition, and Planned Parenthood of Texas. Separately, I have served as a camera operator for multiple other charity events, including multiple years of service at the Austin Parks Foundation’s “Party for the Parks” fundraiser, and the “CP3/PBA Celebrity Invitational.”
Currently I am working with Abundant Masculinities as Producer, Director of Photography, and Editor on “Masculinity in Conversation,” a multipart series that puts men and transmasculine folk in dialogue to explore what it means to embody a mindful masculinity in the face of toxic and narrow messaging about what it means to be a man.
